Minor change to Secondary Times of the Day from 2026
In 2026, Equip Guide Thrive will be combined with Extended PCG and will take place on a Wednesday. This change will not impact student start and finish times. The updated times of day are below:
Transperth Service Change 鈥� 412 Transperth has advised that from November 30, there will be a route change to the 412 Bus. In the afternoon, the service will no longer deviate via 今日吃瓜. The following links provide additional details on the service change and information on alternative routes. If you have any queries, please direct them to Transperth.
College Calendar Update
Beginning next week, the College Calendar will be updated to include new filtering options. Families will be able to view events by selecting filters for 鈥榃hole College鈥�, 鈥楶rimary鈥�, and/or 鈥楽econdary鈥� on both the College website and the College App.
Newman Parents Forum
The Term 4 Newman Parents Forum is scheduled to take place on Monday 10 November at 6.00pm. All parents and guardians are invited to attend in person, in the John Henry Newman Hub, or online via TEAMs. The agenda and TEAMs link are available .
Social Media Ban 鈥� Parent Session and Survey
Last Thursday, the College hosted an online parent presentation on the forthcoming Social Media ban. Guest speaker Paris McNeil outlined the implications of this change and shared practical strategies for how parents and the wider College community can best support students in navigating this transition. To continue supporting families and students in this area, we invite parents to complete a short anonymous survey about their children鈥檚 use of smartphones and social media. The insights gathered will help us better understand community perspectives and identify the key areas where further guidance and support may be needed. The Annual Awards Assembly will take place on Wednesday 26 November, at 9.00am in the gymnasium. If your child is receiving an award, you will receive an email with an invitation to the assembly. Whilst we will endeavour to provide as much notice as possible to families of award recipients, this will be dictated by internal reporting timelines, and for certain year levels, we are only able to notify families a few days before.

During the assembly, the College Guitar Ensemble delivered a fantastic performance of 鈥淪ultans of Swing鈥� by Dire Straits, showcasing the exceptional musical talent within our school.
Our 2026 College Captains, Grace Bradshaw and Thomas Butson, officially addressed the Years 7鈥�11 students for the first time, sharing their vision and enthusiasm for the year ahead. In addition, our Captains of Arts, Sports, Mission, and Community each spoke to the college, providing updates and inspiring their peers in their respective areas of leadership.
HASS Week
今日吃瓜 recently celebrated HASS Week with an engaging series of activities designed to highlight the importance of Humanities and Social Sciences.
Students enjoyed a range of themed events, including:
Globe-Trotting Mysteries and World Flag Frenzy
Trivia Tuesday and the HASS Genius Quest
World Citizen Wednesday, featuring a fun vote for the teacher most likely to be Prime Minister, plus a charity sausage sizzle
Time Travel Thursday, with creative activities like toilet paper mummification and Minecraft builds of historical landmarks
Civics Buzzer Battle to test knowledge and reflexes
Activities were held across the Marcellin Campus, creating a buzz of excitement and learning throughout the week.

Year 9 Abyss Camps
Our Year 9 students completed the Rite Journey Abyss Camp over two days this week.
Considering all that they have learnt this year, the students were challenged to leave their comfort zone behind. Hiking, beach activities, team building games and time for reflection gave the students the opportunity to show their resilience and cooperation as well as an increased sense of self.
All the life lessons covered during Rite Journey, such as changing a car tyre, patching a hole in a wall and cooking a family meal, were preparation for this significant moment.
It was a pleasure to see the students鈥� energy and engagement in this experience. Their eagerness to fully participate and to care for each other made the Abyss a memorable and meaningful step in their Rite Journey.
Well done to all the Year 9 students for taking another big step in your journey. We are honoured to be walking with you.

Year 11 Last Day and Examinations
Our Year 11 students have their final day of classes on Friday 7 November with our Year 11 ATAR students returning to complete their ATAR examinations over the next two weeks.
Students are reminded that they are to wear formal summer uniform to their examinations, and the usual uniform and personal presentation guidelines apply, along with the College鈥檚 Mobile Phone Policy.
Year 11 Exam Feeback will take place from Friday 21 November to Wednesday 26 November.
Our Year 11s are reminded that the Year 7-11 Awards Ceremony takes place on Wednesday 26 November, and that all Year 11 award winners are expected to attend.
We wish our Year 11 students well with their examinations over the next two weeks, as well as their TAFE and workplace commitments.

Year 10 River Cruise – Tuesday 18 November
We鈥檙e looking forward to welcoming our Year 10 students aboard for the River Cruise on Tuesday 18 November. Departing from Barrack Street Jetty, this special evening offers students a chance to celebrate the year with friends while enjoying the stunning views along the Swan River.

State Sporting Representation
Congratulations to the following students for selection in the Western Australian teams in their respective sports:
Pieter Kruger Year 7 represented WA in the School Sport Australia U12 Touch Rugby Tournament, where WA placed 3rd.
Adam Szwedzici, Year 7, represented WA at the All Schools Athletics Competition in U14 Boys High Jump, winning bronze. He has qualified for the State team to compete at Nationals in Brisbane, April 2026.
State and National Representation is an honour and an important stepping stone in an athlete鈥檚 journey. We commend these students for their dedication and commitment to their sport.

Year 10 Camp – Growth, Challenge and Formation
Last week, the Year 10 students attended their Camp at Contos in the majestic setting of the Boranup Forest. The experience aims to foster further relationships within each Guild, set challenging exercises that stretch our students at the margin and develop teamwork. The camping experience also supports the rite of passage program we introduced to Year 9 this year, The Rite Journey. Thank you to Year 10 Leader of Wellbeing, Lara Vlahov, for the outstanding planning and running of the camp, Sharee Hart for her onsite experience and support over the 5 days and the Guild PCG and extra staff who camped with the students. The Year 10 students were amazing in their maturity and cohesion, and personally, I had a fantastic time joining Catherine Guild for the camp and wished I could have had time with other Guilds – hopefully next year!
Arts Week 2025 鈥� Connection
This week we have been treated to the talent, passion and creativity of all students in the Arts. A whole College focus saw students from Year 1 to Year 11 take part in showcases for Drama on Monday evening, Media on Tuesday, Visual Arts Exhibition opening and Music Showcase on Wednesday evening, and the Dance Showcases on Thursday and Friday. The Arts is an amazing place for so many students to find their place, their passion and their confidence. Thank you to our incredible Arts staff, whose commitment to the program inspires our young people to go further. Ms Kathy Le Brooy leads this team and is to be congratulated for bringing a vision to reality.
Year 12 Class of 2025 Graduation
On Monday evening, we will celebrate the Class of 2025 in the Graduation Mass and Dinner at Optus Stadium. We look forward to the joy and family spirit of the evening. The culture at 今日吃瓜 has been built on generations of family spirit, connection and deep respect. I see this lived out daily in the positive and supportive relationships between school and home.聽 You, like I, would have noticed in recent years the messages that are at the front of department stores, shops, and places of interaction between customers and those providing service, reminding us of the importance of respectful and constructive communication. It is sad to think that in the wider community, we are at that point where organisations have to be explicit regarding the behaviour expected in written and face to face communication.聽 I thank our families for the way in which they engage with our College and staff, and ask that we all continue to approach this most important relationship in a way that is mindful of respect.
This week on Marcellin Campus, conversations among year levels have focused on maintaining expectations despite it being Term Four. Students have been reminded about the College鈥檚 uniform and personal presentation guidelines. The focus of our discussions has included the following:
Formal school shirts are ironed and clean, and the only button undone is the top collar button.
Shorts are the correct size and not worn lower than the hips.
Haircuts must be of blade length number 3 or longer, and there should be no major discrepancy between long and short/shaved hair.
Makeup is not to be worn.
Only one set of earrings are worn.
Skirts should reach the knee when standing.
Male students must always be cleanly shaven.
A few students across year levels have been asked by their Leader of Wellbeing to lengthen their skirts by letting down the hem or purchasing a new skirt.

Year 9 Rite Journey 鈥� Abyss Camp
The Year 9 students will be taking part in The Rite Journey Abyss Camp on:
Boys: Wednesday 5 -Thursday 6 November
Girls: Thursday 6 鈥� Friday 7 November.
The Abyss is a one-night camp held onsite at 今日吃瓜. Students will bring their overnight bag and equipment with them to school on the day they are participating; they will need to bring this straight to the Exam Centre in the morning when they arrive. The items will be locked away for the day and they will collect them at 3.15pm when the Camp schedule commences.
The camp program is designed to be a challenge for the students and will involve some physical activities. Students will be placed in situations where they are required to work together, to communicate and cooperate. Activities include:
Setting up and sleeping in a tent overnight on the oval,
Team challenges,
Hiking,
Reflection activities.
This term, students have been engaging in challenges that are life lessons and will give them a sense of accomplishment. Challenges range from changing a car tyre and patching a hole in the wall, to planning and cooking a meal for the family. These activities act as pre-cursors to the Abyss experience.
The Abyss experience marks a symbolic and significant part of The Rite Journey Program. It challenges students to step beyond their comfort zones and provides an opportunity for personal growth, self-awareness, and teamwork in an outdoor environment.
We are incredibly excited to accompany the students on this important step. Staff have been preparing a meaningful and supportive program that blends physical activity with emotional development, encouraging students to engage deeply with themselves, their peers, and their place in the world.
