REMAR Parent Information Evening

The REMAR Parent Information Evening is an important night where we gather and acknowledge the importance of the support of families in the REMAR journey. Participating in REMAR requires dedication and sacrifice and we know that this wouldn鈥檛 be possible without the support of our families. Parents will spend time being informed about each caravel crossing and have the opportunity to discuss, specific details related to their child鈥檚 journey, as well as the commitment required from the rowers.

2019 今日吃瓜 Production – Masquerade

Synopsis

Masquerade is a beautiful and whimsical play based on the children鈥檚 picture book by Kit Williams. The picture book explores the story of the Moon who has fallen in love with the Sun. The Moon sends a hare named Jack on a journey to deliver an amulet, pose a riddle and tell him of her love. Jack encounters a series of characters on his journey and eventually finds the Sun. Unfortunately, he has lost the amulet and scrambles the riddle along the way, as he negotiates the earthly elements.

The stage adaptation of Masquerade has an additional storyline, included at the request of Kit Williams. Playwright, Kate Mulvany, was diagnosed and treated for a rare cancer as a child. During the difficult times during treatment for her illness Kate鈥檚 Godmother visited her bringing a copy of Kit Williams picture book Masquerade. Kate has said that during the journey through the book she was instantly transported out of her pain and sickness, into the magical world of the story. Consequently, Kate Mulvany has added the metaphorical journey of Joe to take place alongside Jack Hare鈥檚 journey. Joe is a young boy fighting cancer, enduring the treatment, trying to make sense of his illness, and the meaning of love.

In the first half of the story, the boy Joe and his mother, Tessa read the book together, while Jack Hare鈥檚 quest it is acted out around them. In the second half of the story the gruelling chemotherapy treatment, the emotional impact of Joe鈥檚 illness, and his mother鈥檚 attempts to stay positive drive the narrative. Joe and Tessa join Jack on the imaginative hunt for the amulet, as the lines between myth and reality become increasingly blurred for Joe, Tessa and the audience. At the heart of this magical musical adventure is the theme of courage, morality, dreams and love.

From the Principal – Welcome to 2019

Welcome to the start of the 2019 academic year. In particular, we welcome our new families and staff to our Marist Community. I hope the Christmas break has given time to strengthen and renew relationships with family and friends.

The heart of our faith community is centred on Family Spirit that fosters support united in Christ鈥檚 love. In 2019 our Marist Theme, 鈥淲e are called to be holy by living our lives with love and by bearing witness today鈥, comes from the Gaudete et Exsultate, the Apostolic Exhortation written by Pope Francis on the call to holiness in today鈥檚 world. For our community, this can be practically lived out in how we seek to provide opportunities for our students and staff to build strong foundations for their faith, learning and ultimately their wellbeing.

In 2019 we continue to consolidate our (Let your Light Shine – Matthew 5:16) and our which set the framework on how we challenge, collaborate, create and celebrate our learning. Ms Lisa Fogliani, Vice Principal, and I were invited to the International Congress for School Effectiveness and Improvement (ICSEI) in Stavanger Norway to present a symposium. This opportunity was afforded as a result of the successful development and implementation of the College鈥檚 Vision for Learning 鈥 Shine Through Discovery. More detail of this will be provided in the first Newsletter of Term 1.

The outstanding achievements of 2018 have provided our College with a wonderful opportunity to springboard into 2019. Our best wishes to all parents and guardians as they prepare their children for the return to school and we look forward to welcoming all students and their families to 今日吃瓜.

May the love of Christ bless our Community.
