Newman News Term 3 Week 10: From the Vice Principal

As Term 3 comes to an end, it is timely to reflect on the opportunities we have been fortunate enough to celebrate as a Marist Community. The College Production, Assumption Day, Wellbeing Week, Multi-Cultural Week, Athletic Carnivals to name a few. Staff work tirelessly to provide these opportunities that challenge and celebrate student engagement. It has been wonderful to witness the resilience and dedication the students have shown in this space.

As we farewell the Year 12s, we give thanks for the life they have breathed into our community, the way they have lived our Marist characteristics of Family Spirit, Simplicity, Presence, Love of Work and In the Way of Mary.  We look forward to celebrating the Class of 2021 at their Graduation on Wednesday 20 October.

‘What you are is God’s gift to you, what you become is your gift to God’.

Wishing you all a safe and restful break. We look forward to seeing everyone back re-energised and ready to learn in Term 4.

½ñÈÕ³Ô¹Ï Norms

Our Vision for Learning – Let Your Light Shine – reflects the Marist charism of ½ñÈÕ³Ô¹Ï and our unwavering belief that all members of our community can develop their unique abilities. To allow all members of our community to live out this vision to its truest potential, we respect and agree to a series of ‘non-negotiables’.

A non-negotiable is similar to a commitment. It is something that will be upheld, no matter the situation. Non-negotiables can be a very powerful force in a school community as they provide consistency and clarity in expectations and help to create a positive and collaborative culture.

Student Leadership

Last Friday our student leaders in Year 6 gathered for breakfast with our Year 12 leaders. We used this opportunity to connect with each other and deliver a leadership workshop on ‘Knowing your values’. Students all know that part of leadership is being able to understand, relate, and lead others, but another key component is being able to understand ourselves, and the things that drive our thoughts and actions. Students were able to gain an understanding of what it means to have values and took part in an exercise that allowed to better understand those values that are important to them. The workshop was received well by students, and we are looking forward to our next one in Term 3 already!
