Champagnat Festival Day

Thursday 6 June 2019 is the Feast Day of St Marcellin Champagnat, the founder of the Marist Brothers and of Marist education. To mark this very special day in the life of the International Marist Institute, our K-12 College community will be celebrating Champagnat Day across the College on Friday 14 June. As one of 52 Marist schools across Australia, the Feast Day of St Marcellin Champagnat is an opportunity for all members of our College community to gather, give thanks, and to celebrate our shared Marist identity.

Attendance on Friday 14 June, like any other school day, is compulsory for all students.

Life Education Program

The Life Education Program is coming to the Lavalla Campus in Term 2 Week 4. Life Education aims to empower our students to make safer and healthier choices through education.

Parents are invited to attend the Life Education Van on Wednesday 22 May from 2.30pm 鈥 3.00pm if they would like to look at the Programs on offer. The van will be located near the basketball courts and parents can enter and speak to the presenters.

The Program supports children, teachers and families to explore a range of health topics such as nutrition, resilience, decision making, social skills and physical activity. Providing opportunities to develop knowledge, understanding and skills is important in positively influencing healthy behaviours.

Teachers select from a range of age appropriate health and social skills modules to best meet the needs of their students. Students visit the Mobile Learning Centre, meet 鈥淗ealthy Harold鈥 the giraffe, and engage in an interactive learning session featuring props, role play and audio visual material. This session is used as a platform to introduce and explore various health topics, which can then be consolidated and extended further back in the classroom using comprehensive student and teacher resources.

Years 3-6 School Photo Day

Students will be photographed for the Yearbook and for their school package photos on Friday 17 May.

Students are required to wear their full Winter Uniform (including polished shoes and聽hair is neat and tidy).

*Please note: Due to logistics and time constraints no sibling photos will be taken on this day

Newman Parents Consultative Committee Meeting

An invitation is extended to all parents and guardians to attend the Parent Consultative Committee Meeting (NPCC).

Besides the regular agenda items, additional topics will include:

  • Capital Development Plan, presented by Tom Wagner, Director Operations and Engagement
  • Early Childhood, presented by Lisa McClue, Leader of Wellbeing Early Childhood
  • Introduction of Alan Fitzpatrick, Deputy Principal Wellbeing Secondary

The NPCC is an important space for a collaboration of ideas. It is also an opportunity to meet parents who are engaged in facilitating our parents groups. These groups for 2019 are as follows: Primary Social Group; Friends of The Arts; and Arts Festival Committee. to read more about the work of the NPCC.

Year 6 Camp

The Year 6 cohort聽participate in a four-day camp at Forest Edge, Waroona.聽The Forest Edge Recreation Camp will provide opportunities for students to work cooperatively as part of a team, under the supervision of teachers and experienced camp coordinators, to foster self-esteem and teamwork.

The students will be involved in a variety of activities including; Low ropes, raft building, canoeing, abseiling, climbing wall, incentive course, flying fox, boomerang making, pamper pole and target shooting!
