Winter NAS Results

Thank you to all students and coaches on a great Term 2 of NAS Winter Sport. We had many teams show great improvement over the season with most playing off in the finals. Congratulations to the following teams for winning Premierships:

  • Year 7 Girls Floorball Team

NAS Sport recommences in Term 1 2020.

Marcellin Guild / ACC Athletics Carnivals

Pre-Carnival events (Javelin and 1500m) have already taken place this week with some outstanding results. The takes place on Thursday 8 August. Nominations for all events close on Monday 5 August. The first event commences at 9.00am at the State Athletics Stadium. You can find the full program of events here:

All parents are welcome to come along and support the students. The kiosk will be open to parents for drinks and snacks throughout the day.

Results from the Marcellin Guild Athletics Carnival are used to select the Interschool ACC Athletics Squad. The Squad will be officially selected next Friday and training will commence in Week 4; Tuesdays 3.30pm – 4.30pm and Thursday 7.10am – 8.10am followed by breakfast.

We have Specialist Coaches in place for all track and field events. This year’s A Division Carnival is being held at the State Athletics Stadium on Wednesday 18 September.

Lavalla Faction Carnival

The Lavalla Cross Country Carnival took place on Thursday 25 July. In what was perfect running conditions, students competed with enthusiasm and determination to complete the course. to read more and see more photos from the day.

Run Club

Run Club has recommenced and all students from Lavalla and Marcellin are welcome to attend any sessions. It is recommended that students get to at least one session per week. Students will become more motivated if they get into a routine and feel themselves improving.

Sessions;

  • Tuesdays 7.10am – 8.10am followed by breakfast
  • Thursdays 7.10am – 8.10am followed by breakfast

This semester there are 3 tiers to the program;

  1. Lavalla Group: Coach Lenny Hughes (Level 4 Accredited National Athletics Coach)
  2. Intermediate Group: Coach Torren Diletti (State Runner and four times ACC Cross Country Champion)
  3. High Performance Group: Coach Ben Chamberlain (National Runner and four times ACC Cross Country Champion)

Students are to meet on the steps outside the PE office on the Marcellin Campus in their PE/running uniform. Students are asked to bring their own bowl and spoon for our team breakfasts afterwards. Hope to see as many runners on the track as possible!

Strength and Conditioning

Students in Years 7-12 are offered the opportunity to be a part of the Strength & Conditioning Program which take place on Monday, Wednesday Lunchtimes (School Gym) and Friday mornings (7.30am at the new pool training facility followed by breakfast).

The focus of these sessions is to improve core strength, aerobic endurance and flexibility. This compliments everything they might be doing at Club training and over time will improve speed, performance, confidence and help build resilience against injury.

Years 3-6 Cross Country Carnival

The Lavalla Cross Country Carnival took place on Thursday 25 July. In what was perfect running conditions, students competed with enthusiasm and determination to complete the course. It was wonderful seeing so much sportsmanship between the year groups and every runner giving 100%.

Congratulations to every student for their outstanding running efforts! Well done to Knox Faction for winning the Cross Country Carnival shield with a whopping 618 points followed by Delany, Brigid and Marcellin.

Book Week Events

Each year across Australia, the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) brings children and books together celebrating CBCA Book Week. This year, Book Week is taking place from 17 – 23 August with the theme being Reading is My Secret Power.

The following events will be taking place before, during and after Book Week in 2019:

Marcellin Campus

Throughout Week 5 (Tuesday 20 – Friday 23 August) there will be a range of activities held each day on the Marcellin Campus. Further information will be advertised to students in the daily notices. Events include:

  • Limerick Competition
  • ‘Book Memories’ PCG Quiz

The CBCA nominated books will also be on display on the Siena Learning Centre for students to loan. Students are encouraged to get involved in these many activities available to them.
