ACC Swimming Carnival

The 今日吃瓜 Inter-School Swim Team will compete in the Division 1 ACC Carnival on Wednesday 24 March. A confirmation email has been sent to all parents and guardians whose children are in the team.

All team members are required to arrive at the College at 7.00am on the day of the carnival and assemble in the pool area. The team will be addressed by Mr Finneran and transported to the Stadium at 7.45am. The students will return to the College for a normal 3.30pm dismissal.

Unfortunately, not everyone will swim on the day, as some students will be in the team as reserves.

All team members must be in full College Sports Uniform for the Carnival and must have College bathers to compete in. These are available from the College Uniform shop. Boys have the option of wearing the College blue racing skins.

There will be no canteen facilities for the team, so each member must bring their lunch, water bottle and any other food required for the day.

Parents are welcome to attend the day as spectators. The first event commences at 9.00am.聽

Year 12 Ball

The Year 12 cohort will come together and enjoy a night of fun, food and dancing at their Year 12 Ball.

The ball is by INVITATION ONLY. Invitations to the ball are connected to students’ presence and participation at the following major College events:

  • PK-12 Family Mass
  • Swimming carnival
  • Guild Athletics Carnival
  • Champagnat Day Activities

Students must be in 鈥榞ood standing鈥� (behaviour, attendance, uniform) to receive an invitation to the ball. They聽are expected to attend school on the day of the ball and聽will be dismissed at 12.00pm leaving plenty of time for appointments etc. If a student is away sick from school on the day it is expected that they will NOT be present during the evening.

Newman Parents: Respectful Relationships 鈥� Love at Home

Dr Justin Coulson is one of Australia’s most respected relationships speakers, authors, and researchers.聽He is one of very few people in Australia with a PhD in Positive Psychology – and the ONLY person in the country (and almost the world) whose PhD includes a careful look at the intersection of Positive Psychology and relationships, particularly in family life. Dr Coulson will be presenting the following session:

Respectful Relationships – Love at Home

How to get along with your kids and help them get along with you (and their siblings).

We all saw we get along just fine at home… but there are those uncomfortable niggles. There’s the eye-rolling, the disrespect, the lack of motivation to help out, and the sibling warfare. If we’re honest, most adults have been known to shout a bit too, and let’s face it, we don’t always listen that well to our kids.

Conflict and friction at home cause more trouble than we need, and interfere with everyone’s wellbeing. Wouldn’t it be great if there were some simple, practical things we could do to help everyone get along better – starting right now?

In this session, you’ll learn the best ‘relationship rules’ for a happier family so home life really does feel loving… most of the time聽followed by a Question and Answer session.

Newman Parents is a forum for partnership, communication and information between the school and home at adult only events. This forum recognises that parents are not merely observers of the educative process in which their children are engaged but are active participants in collaboration with the College. The content of the evenings includes communication of key College initiatives and topics that are relevant to the learning and development of students at the College.

Years 7-12 Guild Cross Country Carnival

The Years 7-12 Guild Cross Country Carnival is a compulsory event for all students. When students are not running, they will be attending class as normal. The timetable below indicates when each year group will be running during the day.

Period 1 鈥� Year 12
Period 2 鈥� Year 11
Period 3 鈥� Year 10
Period 4 鈥� Year 9
Period 5 – Year 8
Period 6 鈥� Year 7

The following information will help the students in preparing for the day:

  1. Students are to wear their Guild uniform on the day
  2. Students will need to bring a hat for the period (they are not expected to run in the hat, but prior to and after the event they will)
  3. Sun cream will be provided for the students
  4. Students can bring their own water bottle for before and after the event

Student Requirements

  • College bathers
  • College rash vest
  • Towel
  • College faction shirt, sport shorts, sport shoes/thongs and hat
  • Adequate morning tea and lunch
  • Water
  • Sunscreen
  • Please make sure everything is LABELLED

Zinc cream in faction colours is permitted. This must be applied at home and is not to be brought to school. No hair dye or crepe paper is allowed.

Attendance is compulsory and all students are expected to participate to the best of their ability

A carnival program will be made available closer to the event.
